Tips For Your Laser Vision Correction

Eye Procedures Chesapeake, VA Now that your laser vision correction procedure is scheduled, you may be daydreaming about seeing clearly without contact lenses and eyeglasses. To have the best possible experience and outcome of your laser vision correction, we have some tips for how to prepare for the time before and after the appointment.

Clean Face and Eyes

Your face and eyes need to be free of makeup, lotions and other cosmetics the day of your laser vision correction. Washing your face the night or evening before the procedure may not remove all the residue. The best way to ensure that you have a clean face and eyes is to stop using makeup and cosmetic products 24 to 48 hours before the procedure.

Use Your Specs

Contact lenses help your vision by changing the shape of your corneas, and we need the corneas to be a natural shape. If you wear hard lenses, you should stop using them approximately one month before the appointment. Soft contact lens wearers need to stop using their lenses at least one week before laser vision correction. If you haven’t used your glasses in some time, you should have us check the prescription.

Have a Designated Driver

Arrange for someone to bring you to the appointment and take you home. You will not be able to drive after your laser vision correction. We also recommend that you have a friend or family member stay with you for a day or two because your vision will be somewhat distorted.

Get Comfy

You want to be comfortable during the procedure, so here are some suggestions on what to wear.

  • Avoid clothes that have fluffy material
  • Wear something that helps keep you warm, but not too warm
  • Choose clothing that buttons up

After the procedure, you will need to keep your eyes closed and let them rest. Make sure that you have something to help pass the time since you will not be able to watch television or look at your cell phone. Audio books, music and podcasts are great options.
